White Fillings
If you have a tooth decay and if it is not serious, your dentist will remove the decay and replace it with either an amalgam filling(silver) or white (tooth colour) filling. In comparison to amalgam fillings, white fillings will enhance your smile cosmetically as shown in the picture.
White fillings can be used to repair chipped, broken or worn teeth as well as areas of decay. Since they chemically bond to the tooth structure, white fillings can also immediately strengthen the affected tooth. They can aid in tooth sensitivity caused by decay, and can also be useful for covering over stained or discoloured teeth.
- White fillings are carefully shade matched to appear natural, so are not noticeable when you smile. The material applied has the look of enamel, blending invisibly with the remaining surrounding tooth structure.
- After the white filling is sculpted and moulded into the tooth’s shape, it is hardened with a high intensity light. This forms a very hard substance and will withstand the forces in your mouth when you bite, over a long period of time.
- White fillings are used as an alternative to amalgam (metal) fillings, which are aesthetically poor and may contain mercury.
- Teeth need less preparation for a white filling than for amalgam silver fillings and results are natural and long lasting.
